Ripped from the page (David T List)

Interviews with the characters we all love with a little help from the authors that wrote them.

In this case David T List

Name (and title if appropriate):

I am Irdessa the Undying, an arena fighter in Keswal, in the property of Lanista Udiari.

Books you appear in (links welcome):

Violence & Vigilance. Hopefully the sequel.

In no more than 5 words explain your ambitions:

I will save Vim.

Favourite place and why?

The planning room in Cornerstone in Vim. My father Andelsior would plan missions for the Vanguard. I learned my numbers and letters on the floor. Later I’d learn strategy by standing beside him. Those days are dead, as is my father, but maybe I’ll see Cornerstone again.

Favourite weapon and why?

My twin javelins. They’re fluted to make you bleed out faster and they’ve never failed me in Keswal.

Favourite moment and why?

The moments directly after a fight. The crowd sings your name and throws treasures at you. You ignore them and march to the bath, where you’ll kick off your boots and eat and drink until you pass out. Nothing’s better.

Most significant enemy and why?

I’ll take that to mean, who needs to die the most? I used to think it was Marshal Zander. He arrested us after all, despite years of cooperation. That got my father killed. But he’s only a product of something older and helplessly corrupt. I don’t see that improving until His Might, Vretos dies. If only he aged.

Tell me about your childhood:

I grew up in Vim, a city as far from Promontory as you can get without falling off Fohrvylda. My friends and I had the run of the place. Andelsior was my father and he led Vim’s Vanguard. I watched him and learned.

Where would you be now if you had made better choices?

Ah. You’re referring to the betrayal that led to our arrest. I guess if one of us had managed to see through that shit deal we’d still be running Vim’s Vanguard. And we’d surely be doing a better job than Promontory’s Domestic Patrol at cleaning up outlaws. But there’s no point in digging that up.

Anything you’d like to say to your maker?

I don’t know who hurt you, but I wish it had been me. One day you’ll pay for all you’ve done and all you plan to do. I hope I’m there.

Thank you for your time, please feel free to leave a parting statement:

From David: Thanks for indulging in these interviews, dear reader. And thanks DB for inviting me to do this. V&V launches August 4th, and I hope you can join in on Irdessa’s journey.
