In no more than 5 words explain your ambitions:

Stay alive. Keep my battalion.

Favourite place and why?

Rinayim, my home city. I haven’t been there in fourteen years, so there’s every chance I’ve idealized in my memory, that it shimmers too much in my mind’s eye. I wonder how that picture might be shattered if I ever go back.

Favourite weapon and why?

You would think it would be my ‘sagam’, the long-knife I’ve had since I was a boy. But it’s just a bit small for my hand now. The one I use the most and which best fits my palm is the standard Maurowan soldier’s sword I’ve grown accustomed to. The Maurowans may be unjust to my people, but they certainly know how to make weapons and war.

Favourite moment and why?

When my Captain started treated me like a soldier instead of a pariah. When he really looked me in the eye. I’ll never forget that. It changed everything.

Most significant enemy and why?

The greatest problem for people is the Emperor himself, though I’ve served in his army as a debt soldier for half my life. But my own personal enemy? That has too bitter and complicated an answer and it’s not something I can afford to tell you.

Where would you be now if you had made better choices?

For a long time I thought that if I had done everything right and perfectly I would be home right now with my family. But I don’t really think that’s true anymore. No doubt I could have made better choices, but I’m beginning to think I would still have ended up here.

Anything you’d like to say to your maker?

Whatever you mean by that, I’m not all that interested. Eyes on the task at hand, understand? I acknowledge only the God of the desert and of my people. I don’t bother with the rest.

Thank you for your time, please feel free to leave a parting statement:

The only way out is through.
